Frank Piranio

6/28/2014

Francis “Frank” Piranio, of Warwick, passed away on June 28, 2014 at St. Anthony Community Hospital.  He was 91 years old.

Born on January 6, 1923 in Summit, NJ, he was the son of the late John and Mary C. (Silvestri) Piranio.

He was married to Rosalie Miriam Board Piranio for more than 66 years.

He was a 1937 graduate of St. Columba School in Chester, and graduated from Chester High School in 1941.

He proudly served with the US Army as a Sergeant during World War II from 1943-45.  He attended the Warwick Memorial Day parade this year, driving himself there.  He was a member of the VFW Post #4662 in Warwick, having served as a Commander.

He worked at the New York State Training School for Boys, serving as a Boy’s Supervisor and later at the Mid Orange Correctional Facility. He also worked for the Chester National Bank as a Courier.

A family statement reads:  “He loved playing pinochle, watching the NY Yankees (but only if they were winning) and playing poker with the family during get-togethers on holidays. He always remembered to call his sisters on holidays.  A sentiment he loved from his wife stated:  ‘This I will remember when the rest of life is through:  the finest thing I’ve ever done is simply loving you.’  He loved his wife and family unconditionally.”

He is survived by his wife, R. Miriam of Warwick; his daughter, Rosemary Matthews and her husband Rich of Warwick and their children Toni Constantino of Warwick, Jason Matthews of Washingtonville, and Kristen Saporito and her husband Christopher of Mt. Laurel, NJ, and their children Nicholas and Matthew; and daughter, Debra Niles and her husband Gene of Wallkill and their children Jennifer Pecoraro and her husband John of Slate Hill and their daughter Jillian, and Nicole Guadalupe and her husband Li of Dingman’s Ferry, PA and their daughter Sonja. He is also survived by sisters Lucy Deshler and Jenny Greenwood, both of Chester, along with several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a sister, Millie Grillo and a brother, Sal Piranio.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 1st, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.  Funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by interment in Warwick Cemetery.

We have fond memories of Frank and friendly conversations. He was dedicated to his family and his country. We realized every day was a battle for him to get out but he never gave up. We always found him to be such a pleasant person and will miss seeing him with Miriam. Our sympathy is with you - God Bless
Betty & Evarist LeMay
