Howard F. Johnson, of Warwick, NY, formerly of Blauvelt, NY passed away on January 10, 2015 at home surrounded by his family.  He was 93 years old.

Born on March 16, 1921 in North Grafton, Mass, he was the son of the late Raymond F. and Beatrice (Hargraves) Johnson.

Howie was raised with his three brothers on a dairy farm in North Grafton, Mass.  He often told stories of the fun they had on the farm as children in the 20’s and 30’s.  The farm was a place of joy for not only the Johnson boys, but many of the neighborhood kids as well.  After graduating from Grafton High School in 1937, Howie attended Northeastern University in Boston attaining  a degree in engineering in 1943.  On November 27, 1943, Howie married his high school sweetheart, June Allison.  They were married for 71 years.  Howie served with the US Army Air Corps during World War II from 1943 to 1946.  He served in the China-Burma-India campaign at Kurmitola air base in today’s Bangladesh.  Following the war, Howie worked at Crompton-Knowles  and the Worcester Valve Company in Worcester, Mass.   In 1956, Howie and his family moved from North Grafton, Mass. to Blauvelt, NY where he pursued a career in sales.   He retired in 1986.  Throughout his life he was an active church member, serving the Second Baptist Church of North Grafton, Mass, the Nauraushaun Presbyterian Church of Pearl River, NY and the Greenbush Presbyterian Church of Blauvelt, NY.  He was a member of The Lions Club, Blauvelt, NY and volunteered with People to People and the South Rockland Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers.

Howie always emphasized the importance of family and friends.  He remained close to his three brothers, his cousins, and to the families of his in-laws as well.  Eleanor Allison, his mother-in-law, lived with Howie and his family for more than forty years.  With his sons, Howie enjoyed camping, skiing,  fishing, cross-country vacations, or just tossing a ball in the backyard.  Howie was also actively involved in the lives of his three grandsons, regularly attending their school functions and hockey games.

As a young man, Howie enjoyed playing football and softball and throughout his life he was an avid golfer and fisherman.    He also  loved lounging by his pool on a hot summer’s evening.  He was a season ticket holder of the New York Giants, New York Jets and New York Rangers.
