John J. "Jack" Mayewski

John “Jack” Mayewski, of Warwick, NY, passed away on February 13, 2015, at Valley View Nursing Home, Goshen, NY after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.  He was 74 years old. 

Born on October 7, 1940 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Stanley and Josephine Kadluboski Mayewski. 

Jack earned an A.A.S. degree in Electronics Technology from DeVry Technical Institute,Chicago, IL in 1961.  He began his career with IBM in 1962 when he was employed by IBM Poughkeepsie as an Electronics Technician.  He married his true love, Shirley Fadyn, from Seymour, CT, in 1965, and they soon settled in Hyde Park, NY, where their two daughters, Christine and Carol were born. 

Jack had a successful career with IBM, serving in numerous technical and management positions over a span of 38 years.  He was transferred from Poughkeepsie to IBM Sterling Forest in 1974, and at that time moved to Warwick, NY with his family.  Jack worked as a Systems Auditor on projects in the US, Canada, Europe, and Japan.  As a Certified Project Manager, he conducted numerous contract reviews and risk assessments. 

Jack was an enthusiastic supporter of the environment and served on the committee for the Purchase of Development Rights (PDR) and the Warwick Conservancy.  He was a member of St. Stephen’s Parish and an active member of the IBM Sterling Forest Quarter Century Club and the Warwick Valley Country Club, where he enjoyed playing tennis and golf.

Jack will be remembered for his kindness and gentle manner and his dedication to his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren.  His family and friends were his greatest source of happiness.

The family would like to thank the staff of Valley View Nursing Home and Orange Hospice for taking wonderful care of Jack.

Jack is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Warwick;   daughters, Carol Mayewski of Warwick, and Christine Mayewski Orich and husband Scott of Indianapolis, Indiana;  grandchildren:  Erin and Kaylei Mezzetti,  Brooks and Maddie Orich.  He is also survived by his sister, Rosemary and her husband Francis Donelan of Spotswood, New Jersey, and sister-in-law, Cindy Fadyn, of Portland, Oregon, and several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at St. Stephen RC Church, Warwick, followed by a reception in his memory at the Warwick Valley Country Club.

I'm very sorry to hear of Jack's passing. I knew him when we both worked in Sterling Forest. He was such a gentleman and had everyone's respect. May he rest in peace.
