Lena Langlitz

3/19/2015

Lena Langlitz, 96, of Warwick, passed away peacefully at the Carlucci Home for Ladies in Greenville, NY on March 19, 2015.

Born on January 15, 1919 in New Milford, NY to German immigrants Catherine R. and Peter Wilhelm, she attended Warwick Public Schools until 1935 when she left education to help her parents on their dairy farm due to the sudden death of her brother, Alexander.

In 1938, she married the love of her life, George M. Langlitz.  They were married for 55 years.  He passed away in 1992.

Lena spent most of her life as a homemaker working outside the home when her three children were in school.   She loved gardening, reading, and playing cards.  She was a devoted member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Warwick, NY and was a member of the Ladies Aid Society.    Lena’s greatest joy was spending time with her family.  She left more memories than there are stars in the sky.

She was predeceased by her cherished daughter, Carole Paffenroth;  three sisters:  Amelia Ochs, Helen Martin, and Ester Felker;  and four brothers:  Peter, Alexander, Henry and William Wilhelm.

She is survived by a son, Melvin G. Langlitz and his wife Carol of Thompson Ridge, NY, and daughter, Nancy J. Stanfield and her husband James of Eastham, MA; two sisters, Minnie Youngman and Louise Daubert.

Lena was so loved by thirteen grandchildren:  Lori Deblock and her husband James, Kim Paffenroth, Amy Lijoi and her husband Stephen, Susan Gorgolione and her husband Joseph, Sharon Petrovich and her husband Robert, James Stanfield III and his wife Anngie, Kelly Kolvenbach and her husband Mitchell, Thomas Stanfield and his wife Shannon, Peter Stanfield and his wife Kumi, Jason Langlitz and his wife Kathy, Gaylea Langlitz, Mara Carpenter, Nathan Langlitz and his wife Rebecca.

She was the proud great-grandmother to 29:  James and Sara Deblock, Aaron and Rachel Lijoi, Jared Gorgolione, Kayla, Dallas and Matthew Petrovich, Brydie and Owen Stanfield, Abigail, Garret and Hailee Kolvenbach, Jett and Giada Rose Stanfield, Shogo Stanfield, Derick, Robert and Julie Carpenter,Stephanie Kuehn, Lena, Nathan, Samantha, Kyle, Katherine, Lauren and Conrad Langlitz, Christopher Perry,  and Dakota Langlitz, and great-great grandmother to Lillian Morel and Benjamin De Leon.  She had a close relationship with niece Debbie Langlitz, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  They all will remember her loving smile and warm embrace.

She was an inspiration worth striving for, selfless and compassionate, a true giver, totally dedicated to the life she experienced.  To have known her was pure grace, truly a gift to her family.

Visitation will be on Monday, March 23rd, from 4-8 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, NY.  Funeral service will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, March 24th, at the funeral home, followed by interment in Warwick Cemetery.
