Phoebe Peters

Phoebe M. Peters, of Warwick, NY,  originally from Cresskill, New Jersey, passed away surrounded by loved ones Sunday, May 31, 2015 in Warwick, New York.   She was 89 years old.

She was born in New York City on July 7, 1925, the daughter of the late Max and Adele Marx.

Phoebe was predeceased by her loving husband, Paul Peters, who passed away December 16, 1984.  She met Paul as a young woman in the Washington Heights section of New York City.  Their romance bloomed after his service during World War II.  She remained devoted to him for the rest of her life.

Phoebe was a lively woman of strong spirit and an independent will.  Her many interests include her family, gardening, needlework, line dancing, San Francisco cuisine, cats and the New York Yankees. Many handmade heirlooms including hats, afghans and needlework items have been left to her family to be cherished for years to come.

The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to both Doctor John Fiore and Doctor Dennis Scharfenberger for their dedication and compassion to both Phoebe and her concerned family. In addition, thanks and tremendous appreciation go to the nursing/ care staff and administration at Mount Alverno and Schervier Pavilion in Warwick for their personal care and professional treatment of Phoebe.  She was blessed with the best doctors, facilities and health care while in Warwick.

Phoebe is survived by her two daughters; Nancy McKay and husband, Timothy of Euclid, Ohio and their two children Gail McKay and Gregory Mc Kay also of Euclid,Ohio,  and daughter  Ginny Schaper and husband Robert of Warwick and their children, Mark Schaper of Warwick, Karen Schaper of Warwick  and, Julia Chiarot and her husband Justin of Goshen and one great grandchild, Leah Chiarot of Goshen.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 5th, from 10:00 am-12:00 pm at  Lazear – Smith  & Vander Plaat  Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick New York. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm, followed by inurnment in Ferncliff Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Lung Society (www.lung.org) or Warwick Valley Humane Society (www.wvhumane.org).
