Kenneth A. Egan

10/24/2015

Kenneth A. Egan, of Warwick, passed away on October 24, 2015 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Wallkill, NY.  He was 90 years old.

Ken was born on July 26, 1925 to the late John and Lillian (nee Stevens) Egan in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, New York, where he also met his beautiful bride of 65 years, Miriam.  After serving our country as a Machinist’s Mate in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during WWII, Ken returned to the New York City area and joined the New York City Police Department, where he served as a patrolman and was later promoted to the rank of Detective, First-Grade.  He proudly served in a special unit where he guarded the Mayor of New York City as well as visiting dignitaries including Pope Paul VI and Vice President Spiro Agnew.

After his retirement from the NYPD in 1973, Ken began a second career as a client service director  in the asset management field where he worked until his retirement in 1995.  Ken’s “street smarts”, as he’d refer to them, contributed to two successful  careers, both  taking full advantage of his Irish “gift of gab”, good humor, and genuine, friendly approach with people.

For many years, Ken was an avid golfer and enjoyed many other sports.  He was a parishioner of St. Stephen Church in Warwick and a member of the Knights of Columbus.  Ken was also a member of the American Legion Post 214 in Warwick.

Ken is survived by his wife Miriam Egan at home and his eight children including his son Kenneth Egan and his wife Patricia of Princeton, NJ, daughter Katherine Plebani and her husband Michael of Bristol, PA, son Michael Egan and his wife Debra of Sparkill, NY, son Matthew Egan and his wife Deborah of Rotonda West, FL, daughter Maureen Contento of Yardley, PA, son Timothy Egan and his wife Cheri of Darien, CT, daughter Patricia Bartolotta and her husband Joseph of Warwick, NY, and daughter Ann Schroeder of Yardley, PA.  Also surviving are his fifteen grandchildren: Tracie, Jillian, Michael, Nicole, Joseph, Christopher, Nicholas, Stephanie, Kevin, Ryan, Timmy, Danielle, Caroline, Tommy and Olivia, and his four great-grandchildren: Christopher, Oona, Grace, and Scarlett

Visitation will be on Friday, October 30th, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 -10:30 AM at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.  Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday at St. Stephen Church, 75 Sanfordville Rd., Warwick, NY followed by interment in St. Stephen Cemetery, 98 Galloway Rd., Warwick, NY.
