Alan G. Bird

Alan G. Bird, of Myrtle Beach, SC (formerly of Warwick) passed away suddenly on November 23, 2015 in Myrtle Beach.  He was 64 years old. 

Born on January 22, 1951 in Wells, Somerset, England, he was the son of Joyce (Peppard) Bird the late Gerald R. Bird. 

When living in England, he served an apprenticeship at Wells Cathedral, was a Banker Mason, and foreman of the Mason’s Yard.  Alan was proud to have served as a volunteer firefighter in Wells, England.  After coming to the United States in 1980, he was the Master Stone Mason at Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in NYC, and later owned Bird & Son Masons in Warwick.  Most recently, he was a school bus driver for the Warwick Valley school system. 

He is survived by his wife, Lynne (Britton) Bird of Myrtle Beach, SC;  his mother, Joyce Bird; his daughter Jennifer Bird Quigley of Warwick; his son Jason Bird of England; four grandsons:  Lcpl. Nikolai Quigley, Ian Quigley, Ryan Quigley and Gerald Sokolska;  his former son-in-law, James Quigley.  He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Anna Quigley. 

Memorial visitation will be on Monday, November 30th, from 6:30-8:00 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, followed by a memorial service at 8:00 pm. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to American Heart Association, 95 Gleneida Ave., Carmel, NY  10512 or Warwick Valley Humane Society, PO Box 61, Warwick, NY 10990.

I grew up in the same village as Alan (Priddy) near Wells in Somerset. He was always very kind and I also knew his Mum and Dad. I knew he had become a master mason. I am so sad to hear of his passing. My condolences to you and the family
