Charles Winship

Charles “Charlie” Winship, longtime resident of Sugar Loaf, NY, was called home to be with our Lord on November 27, 2015. He was 80 years old. 

Charlie was born on January 8, 1935 in Goshen, NY, he was the son of the late Howard and Helen (Ryan) Winship 

Charlie was a Senior Compositor for Lederle Laboratories for 42 years and served in the Army reserves for 6 ears.  He was a member of Saint Columba Roman Catholic Church in Chester, NY 

Family Statement reads:  Dad was a family man who dedicated his life to his beloved wife, Gertrude, children and grandchildren.  He always told his kids, “My Wife, My Life”.   His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends telling stories and sharing memories. He will be forever loved and missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Gertrude (Walling) Winship of Sugar Loaf;  his children:  son Gary Winship and Annemarie McKevitt of Sugar Loaf, daughter Gail Valetta and husband Joseph of Buffalo, NY, daughter Christine Cypher and husband Bill of Washingtonville, NY, son Kevin Winship and wife Cheryl of Goshen, NY, daughter Dana Winship and fiancé Wayne Click of Wurtsboro NY.  He is also survived by his brothers Walter Winship, John Winship, Thomas Winship and wife Rose, sister Marybeth Kaczmar and husband Robert,  sisters In-Law Patricia Winship and  Elaine Winship.  Proud “Poppa” to his 8 grandchildren Chelsie, Ashley, Shannon, Samantha, Billy, Richie, Dustan and Hayley, many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was pre-deceased by his son Wayne Winship, brothers Lawrence Winship and William Winship, sister-in-Law Genevieve Winship and Roberta Mance, and niece Lori Soller.  

Visitation will be on Thursday, December 3rd, from 3:00-7:00 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.  Funeral Mass will be at 11 am on Friday, December 4, at St. Columba RC Church, 29 High Street, Chester, followed by interment in St. Stephen Cemetery, Warwick, NY.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to a charity of one’s choice.
