Frank Edward "Jack" Ward III

Frank Edward “Jack” Ward III, a lifelong resident of the area, passed away May 13, 2016.  He was 77 years old.   Frank was born on January 14, 1939 in Bellvale, NY, son of the late Frank Jr. and Irene (Phillips) Ward. 

Frank valued education and began his at Black Rock, a one room school house, in Deerpark, NY.  He attended both Port Jervis and Otisville, where he graduated in 1962.  He furthered his education while serving in the United States Navy.  Following Basic & Avionics training, he was assigned to VS-39, an anti-submarine squadron. This squadron patrolled from the East Coast of the United States to the Indian Ocean.  During his time in service, he obtained the enlisted rank of AD2, Aviation Electricians Mate Second Class and received an Honorable Discharge.

Frank was employed by New York City Department of Health, Bureau of Laboratories at the Otisville Branch.  Frank retired when it closed in 1983.  This same facility was also known as Otisville Bio-Tech and finally as Alliance Pharmaceutical Corp. where he became the Facility Director and retired in 2003.  Soon after he obtained his license as a Real Estate Appraiser. 

Frank was an initiator of the Minisink Valley Little League and was involved in Youth Soccer too.  He was active in local politics and the Historical Society.  Over the years he enjoyed fishing, gardening, working on both bicycles and motorcycles, woodworking and computers and his family genealogy.  He liked to share his knowledge with others based on their interests.  While our hearts are broken, we are grateful he is at peace. 

Frank is survived by his surrogate son, James Bacigalupo, his wife Lisa and their daughter Maria who referred to him fondly as “Gramps”.

Also survived by his sisters:  Frances Rosales of Glendale, AZ, Marjorie Davenport and husband George of Johnson, Alice Dwyer of Otisville, Virginia Kania of Bullville, Sharon Essig-Marsh of Circleville,; and his brother, Steven and wife Lynn of Rochester.  He is survived by uncle, Stanley Phillips and his wife Jan of Bainbridge, aunt, Rosemary Wildrick Ward of Fruesburg, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and several grand-nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and brothers-in-law:  Gilberto Rosales, Michael Dwyer, Joseph Kania, Francis Essig, Kenneth Marsh and nephew, Jeffery Kania.

Special thanks to Jenn & Anna, the staff at both Orange Regional Medical Center and Middletown Park (Manor) and for all of the support of family & friends throughout his resolute and courageous battles.

Visitation will be on Thursday, May 19th, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick.  A brief service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10:00 am, followed by interment in Warwick Cemetery with military honors. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
