Antoinette Mary Knapp

9/19/2016

Antoinette Mary Knapp (Garcia), a lifelong resident of Warwick, NY, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2016.  She was born on December 7, 1922 in Warwick, NY.  She was the daughter of John and Theresa (Manno) Garcia.

Antoinette was a graduate of Warwick Valley High School.  She married Doland S. Knapp on June 4, 1950, and they remained in Warwick to build their dream home on Kings Highway, where they raised their family.  Antoinette worked at several jobs over the years until she found her calling when she began working at Orange-Ulster BOCES.  She worked at several different locations for many years in various classrooms where she touched the lives of many children until she retired in 1987.

As a longtime member of the Warwick United Methodist Church, Antoinette was an active participant in its many clubs, fairs, and other activities.  She was a member of the Warwick VFW Post 4662 Ladies Auxiliary; she sold many a Poppy.

Antoinette had a passion for food.  She loved to cook everything, especially Italian, and when baking her specialties were wedding and birthday cakes-they were grand.  Her grandchildren were her all-in-all, whether it was digging worms and fishing, hosting a tea party or storytelling, these were her pleasures.

Antoinette was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years Doland, her sister Clara (DenDanto), brothers Russell and Sammy, and nephew “Butchie” DenDanto.

Antoinette is survived by her beloved son, Sanford and daughter-in-law, Eileen, treasured daughter, Theresa and son-in-law Joseph, her cherished grandchildren:  Alan, Michael, Joy, Kimberly (Greg), and Jessica, great-grandchildren:  Aiden, Landon, Olivia, Blake and Isabelle; and her brother, Rocco (Claire) Garcia.  She is also survived by her dear friend, Frances Alexander.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all of the people working at Whittier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center, Ghent, NY, WING 1, for the loving kindness and many thoughtful actions shown to our mother and family during her stay there.  They clearly demonstrated to us that there are angels on earth.

Visitation will be on Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 10:30 am-12:30 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.  A celebration of Antoinette’s life will follow at 12:30 pm.  Interment will be in Warwick Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Warwick United Methodist church, 95 Forester Ave., Warwick, NY 10990

I have wonderful memories of Ann, especially at Cogs. So thankful for her kindness and caring ways for everyone. How she loved Terry and her granddaughter! So thankful that our paths crossed. I know Charles would have felt the same way! Blessings! Sandy Sharer Beil

What a wonderful legacy Ann left. She lived such a great fulfilled life. I loved working with her aunt Clara selling their properties. Loved the italian cooking. The day Michael was in the THR for animating Polar Express she was the first call, telling me how proud she was of this boy she knew as a young child. Memories last a lifetime. Our love to your family. Len and Rosanna Mumbauer
