George C. Eichelberger

George C. Eichelberger, of Hockessin, DE passed away on January 31, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY. He was 85 years old.
Born on November 2, 1931 in Frederick, MD, he was the son of the late J. Carroll and Wilhelmina Love Eichelberger
George was a graduate of McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Maryland and Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. Following graduation, he joined the Insurance Company of North America which was ultimately merged into CIGNA. His more than 40 year career with CIGNA took him from Cumberland, Maryland, Baltimore, Maryland, Wilmington, Delaware, Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania and several other office locations in the Philadelphia area. After retirement, he and his wife kept busy with an insurance bond loss consulting business he started and operated until recently.
George was married to his loving wife, Helen M. Eichelberger, for 59 years who preceded him in death on October 27, 2016. He and his wife loved camping and owned several trailers and a small motor home over the years. They especially enjoyed visiting with their children and grandchildren as well as vacations in Myrtle Beach, SC.
George was active in his church, Grace Lutheran Church, in Hockessin, Delaware as well as with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts throughout his life.
George is survived by his children: Earl Eichelberger of Warwick and George Kevin Eichelberger and his wife Fran of Chagrin Falls, OH; his grandchildren: Jacob Eichelberger and wife Tracy of Merritt Island, FL, Stephanie Eichelberger of Albuquerque, NM, Joseph and Sara Eichelberger of Warwick, and Matthew, Anna, and Emily Eichelberger of Chagrin Falls, OH; and great-grandchildren: Kamryn, Sean, and Harmony. He was also preceded in death by his sister Betty Love James and is survived by his sister Marion Ann Maeser.
Visitation will be on Monday February 6th, from 4:30 – 6:30 at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, NY. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday at the funeral home, followed by private cremation.
