John J. Lee Jr., of Warwick, NY passed away peacefully at home on March 25, 2017. He was 76 years old
Born on December 4, 1940 in Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late John J. Lee Sr. and Margaret Mary (Deacy) Lee.
John Lee was educated at Fordham University, Rose Hill, graduating in 1962 with a double major in history and philosophy. He went on to study Law at Fordham Law School graduating in 1965, and was admitted to the New York Bar shortly after. At the beginning of 1966 he was drafted into the US Army and he served his country in the Vietnam War in the Judge Advocate General’s Corp. or JAG. He was stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco after his time in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged as a Captain and was awarded a Bronze Star Medal.
Mr. Lee maintained a private practice law office in Warwick for over 25 years, specializing in personal law and real estate. He served as Warwick town attorney for many years starting in 1974, and also served as an Orange County attorney.
John loved music, art and theater, and these were a big part of his life. He was a patron of many local artists, whose work he made part of his home. He loved to sing, and was one of those people who would just break into song. He was a tenor and participated in many community stage productions, and was involved in theater throughout his life, from a very young age. His laugh was contagious and anyone who ever heard him laugh or sing will remember his spirit.
John served his community as past President of the Warwick Historical Society, and studied local history and historical figures extensively. He was past President of the Warwick Humane Society, and a charter member of the Rotary Club. He was a long time member of the Warwick Valley Country Club, and a parishioner of St. Stephen’s Church in Warwick.
He is survived by his wife Helen Lee of Warwick, NY, his daughter Elizabeth Lee of Warwick, NY, and many cousins.
Visitation will be on Thursday, March 30, 2017, from 4:00-8:00 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday at St. Stephen RC Church, 75 Sanfordville Rd., Warwick. Interment will follow at Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Craigville Rd., Goshen, NY.
