Sophie Kepponen

Sophie Kepponen of Wilmington, NC, formerly of Warwick, NY, passed away on April 7, 2019 at the Autumn Care Center in Brunswick, NC. She was 95 years old.

 

Born on February 22, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Joseph and Stella (Wisniewski) Dlugenska.

 

Sophie worked as a bank teller for Maspeth Federal Savings and Loan, Maspeth, NY. After retiring as a bank teller, Sophie moved to Colorado Springs where she spent a very happy

15 years before relocating to Warwick, NY.

 

Sophie was a member of The Warwick Valley Seniors and St Stephen’s Catholic Church. 

 

Sophie is survived by her daughter, Carole O’Neill; three grandchildren, Daniel O’Neill of New Milford, CT, John Griesmer of Pendleton, NY, and Megan Conklin of Highland Mills, NY; and eight great-grandchildren: Ayden, Brady, Caroline, Kasey, Sophia, Alexandra, Jackson and Hadley. She was predeceased by her husband Edward; daughter Kathleen Kepponen; son-in-law Thomas C. O’Neill; grandson Thomas E. O’Neill; and two brothers, Edward Spoth and Stanley Dlugenska.

 

A Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 25 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen RC Church, 75 Sanfordville Road, Warwick, NY.
