Mearl A. Mines, Jr. of Warwick, NY departed this life unexpectedly on July 24, 2020.
Mearl was born August 19, 1949 in New York City, to the late Mary Alice Brown-Mines and Mearl A. Mines, Sr. His parents resided in Brooklyn, NY where Mearl went to school and eventually they moved to the Bronx.
Mearl worked for 30 years in the mailroom for Time Warner in NYC. He later attended the Culinary Institute of Manhattan and became a chef at Mount Alverno Center in Warwick, NY.
On May 8, 1999 he married the love of his life and soul-mate Gloria Washington. He loved gardening and flowers, but most of all he loved Gloria his wife and never missed a chance to remind her of his love with a card or gift on any special occasion.
Mearl was also a praying man. He believed strongly in the power of prayer; he was a prayer warrior. Mearl also spoke on many occasions at prisons and did different Men Ministries. He became a member of Union AME church in Warwick, NY.
Mearl is survived by his wife of 21 years Gloria Washington-Mines, son, Mearl A. Mines III of the Bronx, NY; three sisters: Dorothy Barrett of Chesapeake, VA, Linda Hill and Loretta Mines both of the Bronx, NY; Uncle Eddie Mines of Ashland, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be on Saturday, August 1, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick. A private service and interment will follow the visitation.
