Ann M. Von Ohlsen

3/17/2023

Ann M. Von Ohlsen of Warwick, NY, formerly of Monsey, NY, passed away on March 17, 2023, at Newton Memorial Hospital, Newton, NJ. She was 88 years old.

Born in NYC on September 1, 1934, she was the daughter of Louis and Marie Breden. She lived in Rockland County, NY for many years and was a teacher with the East Ramapo School District where she touched many young lives.

Ann was raised on a dairy farm in Lookout, PA where she attended a one room school house and held the title of “Miss Lookout” Dairy Princess.  She Graduated with honors from East Stroudsburg University and became a Kindergarten teacher.   Her first teaching job was at Monsey Elementary School in Rockland County, NY.   She met the love of her life John C. Von Ohlsen, a Ramapo Policeman and were  happily married for 49 years. They retired to Smith Mountain Lake, VA for 20 years before John passed away on February 25, 2007.

Ann later moved back north to Warwick, NY where she started a new chapter of her life. She was very active and kept busy with her group of friends referred to as the “Golden Girls”.  She filled her days hosting card games, playing mahjong, watching movies and going out to lunch with the ladies. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she also participated in bible study. She was active in the Warwick Senior Citizens Group and enjoyed joining them on day trips. Ann was an avid reader, since she was a little girl, she always had her nose in a book. She was a remarkable cook and enjoyed baking cookies and preparing meals for her friends and family.

A family statement states, “Ann was a good Christian woman who was always willing to help someone in need. Her life was a living example of the bible verse – “ Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”  Ann never complained; she was an eternal optimist.  She was an old school spouse and loving mother.  Her family loves to talk about the many great memories of summers spent at Duck Harbor Pond in PA , especially her nieces and nephews who have fond memories playing cards on the porch with their Aunt Ann.

Ann is survived by her daughter Wendy A. Donohue and her husband Brendan of Warwick, NY; son John L. Von Ohlsen of Milford, Pa; grandchildren: Gabrielle M. Donohue, Nanci A. Boggs, and William Brooks; sisters-in-law Celia M. Breden and Beulah “Boots” Breden. She was predeceased by her beloved husband John Charles Von Ohlsen; and three brothers: Fred, Ralph and Louis Breden.

Memorial visitation will be on Monday, April 3, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Mulder Chapel with a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. also at Mulder Chapel, 62 Warwick Center Road, Warwick, NY, with Pastor Craig Adams officiating.

Sending our deepest condolences to you and your family on the loss of your mother. Ann lived across the hall from my mom, Pat this past year. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word. We were sorry to hear of her passing. May God bring you peace and comfort at this difficult time.
