Gary Burriss

11/5/2020

Gary B. Burriss of Warwick, NY passed away peacefully at Westchester Medical Center on November 5, 2020. He was 69 years old.

Born on May 26, 1951 in Bethesda, MD, he was the son of Carl and Shirley Burriss.

To sum up Gary’s life and the impact of his love in one statement is impossible. He was larger than life and so full of humor, energy, and wit. Hilarious, hardworking, and an incredibly talented craftsman, Gary loved his hometown of Warwick; eating Maryland blue crabs; and listening to country music. He was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back before you realized you even needed it. Gary’s love for his family, friends, and friends who became family just poured out of him. He adored his five beautiful grandchildren. You could see it every time they were together and it was pure joy watching him get to know each one of them. Gary is already missed by his wife, his loving children, neighbors, and everyone whose life was touched by his generosity and kindness.

Gary will be sorely missed, but never forgotten by those who survive him: his wife, Tracey (Greene) Burriss of Warwick, NY; daughter, Emily Knight and her husband Brett of Montgomery, NY, daughter, Cassie Phillips and her husband Kevin of Bel Air, MD, son, Zachary Burriss and his wife Allison of Forest Hill, MD and stepson Jesse Douglas and his fiancée, Alex Kanter of New York, NY; sister, Susan Burriss of Tampa, FL; and five grandchildren: Sara, Hayley, Brody, Emi and Makenzie.

Gary was a favorite friend through High School and at reunions. I'm sad to hear of the loss to.his family and friends and my love and prayers extend to all that knew him. I had great plans to get together with him again as he had a new place in MD and heartbroken I didn't get to do this. He was a great friend who I will sorely miss. Love to all his family.

Dear Tracey, Emily, Cassie, Zachary and family, I’ve already spoken of Gary’s amazing smile that lit up his eyes and whole face. And how lovely a person he was. Such a wonderful dad, grandpa, husband and friend. We loved him. What I would like to add after reading this is just.... “A little bit country, a little bit Rock’N Roll!!” Sending major virtual hugs and a whole lotta love, Nancy and Marc (cousins of Tracey)
