A Prince ... “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly: what is essential is invisible to the eye.” [Antoine de Saint-Exupéry]
What a journey we have travelled together ...
The Discovery: Young and eager graduate students at St. John's University - collegiate teaching for the first time mentored by Max and the pursuit of in-depth insights into Mathematics. Then off to college teaching positions at 22-years of age.
The Shaping: Honing our skills and recognizing that teaching mathematics goes hand-in-hand with having our students learn life skills and tapping into our creative skills.
Marriage and Family: Finally having to grow-up a bit, but sharing the magic of childhood with our children. The days at the Suffolk Farm, walking the beaches on Fire Island, canoeing the Peconic and discovering the infamous fox who guided us to safety.
The re-birth: Hitting our lows, discovering new strengths and life-long partners, immersing ourselves into the arts as well as with music. Understanding the flow of life. What a renaissance.
Finally, all grown-up: Throwing away the alarm clock - retirement. Placing all the passions in front and reaching new heights.
The final conversation: A week before his final steps in the journey, we confirmed a life of friendship ... "old friends like bookends" [Simon and Garfunkel] holding our life journals on our bookshelves.
Love ya,
Don
