Armanda Laracuente Martinez, prior resident of the Burt Farms community in Warwick, NY for 28 years, died on Thursday, September 29, 2011, at the age of 97 in Lansdale, PA, where she lived for the past 4-1/2 years.
Mandy was born in Yauco, Puerto Rico on May 18, 1914, one of two children. She moved to the United States in 1928, taking up residence in Manhattan, NY. In 1940 she married Nicasio Martinez. They had two daughters, Olga and Evelyn, and lived in Jamaica, Queens, NY. In 1973 Nicasio passed away and in 1978 Mandy retired from New York City Health & Hospital Corporation. In 1979 she moved to Warwick, NY with her daughter Evelyn and her family.
Mandy is survived by her two daughters: Olga West and her husband Angel of Winter Haven, FL and Evelyn Zambrana and her husband Jose of Souderton, PA; three grandchildren: Lena Perez of the Bronx, NY, and Jose L. Zambrana, Jr. of Takoma Park, MD and Melissa Sanchez of Collingdale, PA; and four great-grandchildren: Ariana and Daniel Perez, and Noe and Emmanuel Sanchez.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 5th, from 9:00-11:00 am at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, NY, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am, officiated by Rev. David Sanchez. Interment will follow in St. Raymond’s Cemetery, Bronx, NY.
