01/27/2013

Marcus “Mark” Doller, 82, of Pine Island, NY, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on January 27, 2013 after a long and courageous battle against cancer.

Born in Haulerwyk, Netherlands, on October 30, 1930 to the late Hendrik and Pieterdina Roffel Doller, he married Aukje (Anita) Oosterkamp on November 16, 1956 and they immigrated to America in February of 1957. Mark worked on a dairy farm in Sussex, NJ before owning his own dairy, retiring from farming in 1986.  Mark started his second career as a school custodian for the Vernon NJ School District retiring in 2001.  In retirement, Mark enjoyed golfing and a gentleman’s farm of sheep and goats with his wife Anita.

Mark was a confessing member of the Goshen Christian Reformed Church and loved singing the hymns, worshipping the Lord and sharing his faith with others.  Mark and Anita loved taking trips to see family in the Netherlands and across the United States.  The highlight of his life was visiting his brothers in Australia in November 1997.

Mark was preceded in death by his sister, Hendrikje De Groat in 2012 and his oldest daughter, Roelofje Ruby Romanko in 2010.

Mark is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anita;   son-in-law Mark Romanko and his wife Patty, and his children Bethany Benanati, Andrew, Christine LaFrance and David;  son Henry Doller and his wife Kathi and their children Bradley, Henry and Kelsie; daughter Dinah Sinnema  and her husband Bob and their children Derk, Jacob and Sarah; son John Doller and his wife Linda and their children Craig and Jenna; son Marcus Doller and his wife Florence and their children Natalie and Daniella; and daughter Audrey Sagala and her husband Rob.

He also leaves behind brothers Hendrik and Willem Doller of Australia; sisters Mina Hofman, Roely Reindersma, both of Michigan, and Janke Boonstra, Feikje Oosterkamp and Tina VandeKaap of the Netherlands, with multiple nieces and nephews around the globe.

Mark was known as “Heit”, “Pake” and “Oome” Marcus – we are thankful for his long life, happy personality and the smile on his face.

Visitation will be on Friday, February 1st, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.  A celebration of his life will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 2nd,  at Goshen Christian Reformed Church, Route 17A, Goshen.  Interment will follow in Florida Cemetery.
