Vincent P. D’Esposito of Warwick, NY passed away peacefully at his home on March 10, 2019 in Warwick. He was 99 years old.
Vincent was born on February 12, 1920 in Brooklyn, NY. He was one of nine children.
He married his childhood sweetheart the late Theresa (nee Cafiero) in 1943.
Vincent served his apprenticeship as a tool and die maker at Bulova Watch Co. During World War II, Vincent worked for the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He helped build the battleships IOWA and MISSOURI, the aircraft carriers BENNINGTON, BON HOMME RICHARD, and FDR. After World War II, he continued his trade as a tool and die maker and his last job was with Metra Electronics. At Metra, he was tool room supervisor for eight years and plant manager for fourteen years before his retirement in 1983.
Vincent was active in the Boy Scouts of America as Scout Master for six years and Neighborhood Commissioner for three years. He was also a First Aid Instructor for the American Red Cross.
While living in Suffern, NY, Vincent was a member of the following Senior Citizens’ Clubs: Suffern, Ramapo, Clark Center, and Airmont. He served these clubs as President, Vice-President, Financial Secretary, Historian, and Club Representative.
He was a member of the Suffern Task Force and the Suffern Foundation, as well as an officer in the Sons of Italy. He was on the Board of Directors of Bon Aire Owners Cooperative for twenty-one years as Maintenance Chairman.
In 1993, Vincent was honored by the Town of Ramapo on Italian Heritage Day. In 1995, he was honored as Senior Citizen of the Year by the Mahwah Elks. He was nominated in 2010 for Senior Citizen of the Year for the town of Ramapo.
Vincent moved to Warwick in 2011. He was a member of St. Stephen the First Martyr Church.
He ran the Bingo at Liberty Green on Wednesday evenings.
He lifelong motto was “Family First”.
Vincent is survived by his daughters Connie Basso and Lena Gobinski and her husband John, of Warwick, NY. He is also survived by his granddaughter Nicole Goetz and her husband Peter and his great granddaughter Riley of Plantation, FL. He is also survived by his grandson John E. Gobinski and his wife Danielle and his great grandchildren Katherine and Jack of Warwick, NY, and Sean of Warwick. He is also survived by his brother Salvatore of Toms River, NJ.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 11 from 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith and Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 12 at 10:30 am at St. Stephen the First Martyr Church, 75 Sanfordville Rd., Warwick, NY. Entombment will follow at Garden of Memories Mausoleum in Washington Township, NJ.
