Viola W. Hull, 102 years old, of Guilford, NY (formerly of Warwick, NY) entered into rest on Thursday, September 14, 2011, at Norwich, NY.
The daughter of Ernest Withers and Bessie Loring, she was born April 2, 1909 in Goshen, NY.
She married Charles E. Hull, who predeceased her. She was Secretary to the President of the Fulton Savings Bank in Brooklyn, NY until she retired.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, as well as her sisters, Mary Knapp and Ruth O’Brien, her half- brother Ernest Withers, Jr., and two half nephews. She was also predeceased by her loving grandfather and grandmother, who helped raise her and her sisters, as their mother was very ill and died at a young age. Their mother’s sister, Harriet Robbins and brother, Edgar Loring, also helped raise them. Viola loved them dearly.
She is survived by her niece, Elaine (Peter) Pikul of Guilford, NY, and her nephew, Pastor Dennis O’Brien and his wife, Marge, of Schuylkill Haven, PA. Also survived by her grandnieces: Lisa (Jeffery) Palmatier, Penny (Kenneth) Knowles, Wendy (Timothy) Murray, all of Guilford, NY; grand- nephews Matthew Pikul and Brian (Tracy) Pikul, also of Guilford, NY; great grand-nieces, Lyndsay Palmatier, Erica, Sarah and Emily Knowles, Montana and Mallory Pikul, and Fiona Murray; great-grand nephews Lucas and Joseph Pikul and Branden Palmatier, all of Guilford, NY.
She is also survived by her half sisters and brother and their families: Gwendolyn Potter, Gladys Akman, Marjorie Potter, Dorothy Szarkowicz, Sarah Hooker and William Withers. Also surviving are her deceased brother Ernest’s wife, Venita Withers and her family.
Viola was a member of the Eastern Star. She loved to paint on China and was truly a talented artist. She has left many beautiful pieces of China (many one of a kind) to members of her family and very close friends.
She lived the past six years of her life with her grand-niece, Penny, her husband Kenneth, and their three daughters, Erica, Sarah and Emily Knowles, in Guilford. They will miss her, as will all of those who loved her. She left most of God’s beauty in her beautiful hand-printed China for her loved ones to remember a remarkable lady.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 20th, from 11:00am-12:00 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 pm. Interment will be in Florida Cemetery, Florida, NY.
