
Barbara J. Bassford, 85 died on October 10, 2012 in Leesburg, VA. Mrs. Bassford, known to all as Bobbi, formerly resided in Upper Greenwood Lake, NJ and Rochelle Park, NJ.
Born on May 11, 1927 in Winthrop,MA, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Frances (Hyatt) Johnson.
She was married to the late Robert James Bassford (1991).
Bobbi was a member for many years and an Elder for two years of the Warwick Reformed Church, Warwick, NY, where she also sang in the choir. She was a member of the Warwick Valley Chorale for many years and sang at Carnegie Hall with the group. Bobbi worked at “The Record” in Hackensack, NJ for many years. She was active in the Boy Scouts, first as a den mother, and then as an advisor, along with her husband Bob, of the Thunderhawks Indian Dance Group 188, Rochelle Park, NJ. She spent many hours researching authentic Indian dress and dance, making costumes, and teaching Indian dance and lore to the scouts and other community groups. The group performed at the 1964 World’s Fair.
She is survived by her daughters: Dawn Jackson and husband David of Haymarket, VA and Bonnie Bastarrechea and husband Benny of Ringwood, NJ; four grandchildren: James Jacob and wife Sonya, Jennifer Jacob, Lance Horton and Matthew Horton; seven great-grandchildren: Christopher, Patrick and Audrey Jacob, Lily and Whit Jackson, Meika and Isaac Horton; and a host of friends and family.
She was predeceased by a son, Lance Bassford in 1971 a brother, William F. Johnson in 2010 and a grandson, John Jackson in 2012.
Visitation will be on Sunday, October 14, from 7:00--9:00 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick. The funeral will be at 10:00 am on Monday at Warwick Reformed Church, 16 Maple Ave., Warwick, followed by interment in No. Hardyston Cemetery, Hamburg, NJ.
