Jonathan Daniel Scharfenberger, of Virginia (formerly of Warwick) passed away on October 18, 2011 at Medical Center of Central Georgia as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident. He was 22 years old.
Born on April 26, 1989 in Edison, NJ, he was the son of Dr. Dennis Scharfenberger and Anna (Smith) Scharfenberger.
Jonathan was a graduate of Don Bosco Preparatory School in Ramsey, NJ and a graduate of Ava Maria University in Naples, Florida. He was the Campus Support Coordinator of Students for Life of America in Manassas, Virginia. He was a member of St. Stephens RC Church in Warwick.
According to Students for Life of America website, “Jon had many successes in his short time with us at SFLA, including establishing a pro-life campus group at Florida International University that was successful in saving the life of a pre-born baby, a mere one week after its creation.”
A family statement reads: “Jon was born a perfect baby boy, grew into a pure and holy young man, and is now our saint in heaven. He lives in our hearts forever.”
He is survived by his parents, Dr. Dennis and Anna Scharfenberger of Warwick;
two sisters: Kimberly and Amy; a brother, Thomas; paternal grandparents, Edward and Elaine Scharfenberger; maternal grandmother, Lydia Smith; uncles Edward Scharfenberger and James Scharfenberger; aunts Miriam Muse and Lois Sheptuck.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 21st, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Saturday at St. Stephens RC Church, followed by interment in St. Stephens Cemetery.
