Mildred Irene Kroon, of Warwick, formerly of Rockville, MD, passed away on September 17, 2014 at Schervier Pavilion. She was 93 years old.
Born on September 8, 1921 in Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late Arvid and Wendela (Bergstrom) Holmgren. Mildred was married to the late Rev. George Kroon.
A family statement reads: “Mildred received her Bachelor’s degree from Hunter College with a major in Economics, an uncommon achievement at that time. As the wife of a pastor, she was very involved in the church activities wherever she attended, serving in many ways throughout the years. Well known for her culinary skills, Swedish traditions, hospitality and gift with words; her fortitude was an inspiration to many.”
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Lindberg and her husband Bill of Warwick; her son Douglas Kroon and his wife Janet of Midland, MI; four grandchildren: Sarah Cooke and her husband Chris of Northborough, MA, Laura Johnson and her husband Patrick of Drexel Hill, PA, Kristina Kroon of Midland, MI and Peter Kroon of Midland, MI; five great-grandchildren: Aidan, Caitlin, Allison, Blake and Hunter; sister-in-law, Eunice Kroon of Staten Island, NY and several nieces and nephews, one to whom she was very close, Linnea Mulder of Redmond, WA. She was predeceased by her daughter, Janice Kroon and her grandson, Mark Lindberg.
A memorial service will be held on October 25, 2014 at the Warwick United Methodist Church.
