Ramona Crowe of Greenwood Lake, NY, passed away peacefully at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2026, in Warwick, New York, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Born Ramona Jean Brown on July 11, 1940, in Aynor, South Carolina, she was a compassionate soul who devoted her life to caring for others. Ramona graduated from Aynor High School before attending Lander College in Greenwood, South Carolina, where she studied nursing and played college basketball. Following college, she continued her athletic pursuits in women's basketball leagues in Charleston.
An avid sports enthusiast throughout her life, Ramona also played softball and coached her son's boxing and football teams. Her nursing career began in pediatrics at Roper Hospital in Charleston. She later joined Low Country Oral Surgeons, where she assisted Drs. Edwards, Brock, and Bass. Her compassionate care and dedication left a lasting impression on countless patients, prompting one former patient to say, "Ramona is the best nurse I ever had!"
In 1984, she returned to her hometown of Aynor to take over her mother's fabric store, where her talents as a seamstress and fiber artist flourished. Known lovingly to her grandchildren as "Nanny," she found great joy in creating one-of-a-kind pieces, often telling them with a smile, "Nobody else is going to have one like it!"
Ramona taught her children never to judge a book by its cover and welcomed everyone with an open heart. She will be remembered for her gentle kindness, genuine acceptance of others, and her remarkable gift for treating every person with dignity and respect. Above all else, she treasured her family. Her greatest happiness came from spending time with her children and grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Mae Miccio, and son-in-law, William (Billy) Miccio; her son, Leonard Lee (Lenny) Crowe II, and his fiancée, Mickey Thompkins Wellons. She is also survived by her grandchildren: William "Taylor" Miccio and his wife, Mariana Miccio; Leonard "Lee" Crowe III and his fiancée, Hannah Jones; James Miccio and his wife, Kylie Gilbert; and Brody Crowe and his girlfriend, Kayden Ray; her great-grandson, Kobe Crowe; and her younger brother, Billy Joe Brown, and his wife, Brenda Brown.
The family plans to hold a Celebration of Life in South Carolina at a future date. Details will be shared with family and friends as they become available.
