Walter W. Penaluna, of Monroe, NY, passed away on February 28, 2017 at Highland Rehab & Nursing Center, Middletown. He was 89 years old.
Born on April 4, 1927 in Sterling Forest, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Millie Mae (Cyphers) Penaluna.
He was married to the late Gertrude Penaluna (2009).
Walter served with the US Navy during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post #1443, Greenwood Lake.
He is survived by his six children: Dwayne Penaluna and his wife Kathleen of Warwick, NY Pamela Grams and her husband William of Ypsilanti MI, Yvonne Penaluna and companion Richard of Harriman NY, Mark Penaluna and his wife Patricia of Highland Mills NY, Natalie Johnson and her husband Jeffrey of Jackson, MI and Jodi Burfeind and her husband Paul of Monroe, NY; his grandchildren: Amy Penaluna, Dylan Penaluna, Cody Grams, Jessica Grams, Zachary Penaluna, Jeffrey Penaluna, Joshua Johnson, Jacob Johnson, Jill Johnson and Harlen Burfeind; and great-grandchildren Maya, Mercedes, Mirage and Logan, and great-great granddaughter Alena. He was predeceased by a daughter, Collette Penaluna.
Visitation will be on Sunday, March 5th, from 3:00-5:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Monday at Church of the Good Shepherd, 62 Windermere Ave., Greenwood Lake, NY. Interment will follow in Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen.
