
Herbert M. Wood, Sr., a lifelong resident of Warwick, entered peacefully into rest at Schervier Pavilion on August 7, 2012. He was 82 years old.
Born on April 19, 1930, he was the son of the late Silas G. and Mary (Lewis) Wood.
He was married for 57 years to Pearl (Mabee) Wood.
Mr. Wood served with the U. S. Army during the Korean War as a Corporal. He was a member and Past Commander of American Legion Post #214, Warwick.
He was retired from Camp La Guardia in Chester, a member of Warwick Fire Police, the Warwick Ambulance Corp, Excelsior Fire Company, a member of the Florida Seniors, and a member of the Warwick Valley Church of the Nazarene..
“Herb loved to go camping, spending time with family and Seniors trips. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Schervier for the loving care they gave Herb, and also many thanks to St. Anthony’s Hospital staff.”
He is survived by his wife Pearl, of Warwick; a daughter, Luanne Rasmussen and her husband Philip and their children John and Anna; a son, Herb Wood, Jr. and his wife Elisa and their children Allison and Justin, of Warwick, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Lewis and Hartley.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 9th, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick. Funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Friday at the funeral home, followed by interment in Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen, with military honors.
