
Marilyn Leary, a resident of Warwick for 12 years, and formerly a 60-year resident of Seaford, LI, passed away on August 27, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was 100 years old.
Born on June 16, 1923, in New York City she was the daughter of the late John and Cecelia (nee Meehan) Hackett.
She was married to the late Frank Leary for 69 years.
Marilyn graduated from The Mary Louis Academy in Jamaica Estates, NY and from Washington School for Secretaries in New York, NY. After graduation she worked for the law firm of Kelley Drye in New York City. For many years Marilyn was an active member of St. William the Abbot RC Church in Seaford, NY and later at St. Stephen Church in Warwick, NY. She loved to read and watch movies, especially thrillers and mysteries.
A family statement reads: “Mom very often would say she felt grateful to be surrounded by a very loving family.” Also, many thanks to mom’s good neighbor, Dotty, who visited every day to spend time with her.
She is survived by her four children: daughter Barbara Duncan and her husband Bob; sons Steve Leary and his wife Annmarie, Greg Leary and his wife Barbara, and John Leary and his wife Phyllis; ten grandchildren: Paul and wife Emily, Mark, Stephanie and her husband Ryan, Shawn and his wife Jeanine, Scott, Brian and his wife Raji, Colleen and husband Brian, Patrick, Jake and Max; and thirteen great-grandchildren: Paige, Cameron, Charles, Ella, Sadie, Tate, Gavin, Sloane, Graham, Sawyer, Everett, Logan, and Myles. She is also survived by brother Byron Hackett and his children Kim and John.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 1, 2023, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick, NY. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at St. Stephen Church, 75 Sanfordville Road, Warwick, NY.
